The roof got hit with some serious hail and it was leaking -- so it was time for an improvement. And because this room faces south it gets piping hot in the summer -- to the point that no one will go in there -- it's scorching! So we chose to have a new, actual roof (not glass panels) put on. I know it will darken the room a little bit, but we are having two skylights put in. At least we'll be able to use it all year around now. :)
Here's what it looked like this morning -- all cleaned out and ready for a new hat!
So lately I've been hunting the web for some sun room ideas and decorating tips. Oh the possibilities of this room! Any thoughts on what I should do?
I'm thinking for sure a shelf of some kinds (behind where I stood to take the picture) -- but what? Short, tall, built-in??
Daybed or couch?
Fluffy rug or jut rug?
Fan/light or chandelier?
Coffee table or ottoman?
Roman Shades or Long Drapes?
Cushy chair or bistro set?
See what I mean?? The possibilities are ENDLESS! I have a feeling this will be a long, fun process of decorating -- so I want to do it right! :)
Any ideas??

ReplyDeleteNate Berkus had a sun room he did on his show, I think last week . It had furniture that was indoor/outdoor but looked like indoor furniture. He used a sectional, dining table, great lighting, etc. He made it an extension of the house which was great. Good luck.

I say daybeds for double functionality if you're anything like me and my fam and wind up with a large crowd on occasion, and I like the idea of a jute rug out there because it's outdoorsy with the flooring and the brick work already. A fluffy rug might contrast too much. After that, I'm outta ideas!! Have fun decorating...exciting!!

daybed, Def daybed! If you can find a cool vintage wood one and load it up with pillows, pillows, and more pillows. I would say jute, easier to keep clean, maybe a fluffy sheep skin on top for toes? A fan would be more functional for an outside space, but I would put a bunch of candles out there for that glam factor. ottoman for sure! so much more causal and relaxed, plus it's nice to have something that can be a foot rest, coffee table, and extra seat :) Just put a tray on top and you'll be stylin' and profilin' :) Why not roman shades and long curtains!? If you go with a pillow-piled daybed, I would put in a cute bistro set to sip tea at and read.

If you are getting a roof and a ceiling, be sure to have wiring put in for a chandelier, or even better a ceiling fan. I would take this really slowly. Put in a day bed, or old sofa, and try out how it all feels. The long curtains might be too much. The stone is so beautiful, I wouldn't want to cover it up with lots of furniture and fabric. It will look really nice with a Christmas tree out there. Ann
ReplyDeleteI think you should do Roman shades. You don't have much room on either side of the windows to pull back drapes and it would be a shame to cover any of the windows or the wood/stone detail.
